While treating a burn mark is very different from other stains, no need to worry. Just by putting in a little work, you may be able to disguise and improve the scorch marks or remove them if you are lucky.

With our help, you will be able to learn how to fix a scorched carpet and make it look as if the burn never happened.

How to fix a scorched carpet (for a small area)

If the burn mark on your carpet is minimal, like from a match or cigarette, you can remove it easily. For that, you’ll need the following

  • Cleaning solution ( 10 parts water and one part hydrogen peroxide)
  • A sandpaper
  • A vacuum
  • A scissor
  • A spray bottle
  • A Cloth

Now you are ready to start the process

  • Smooth out the burned area by rubbing sandpaper on it.
  • Once you have made the area smooth by rubbing sandpaper, you should vacuum it to remove debris.
  • After vacuuming, cut any leftover burnt fiber with a scissor.
  • If the stain is still visible, soak a cloth in your cleaning solution, blot the burn mark, and start around the edges till you reach the middle. Remember not to rub the stain but gently dab the cloth over it.
  • After you have finished cleaning, leave the carpet to dry completely.

How to fix a scorched carpet (for a large area)

If the burn mark is spread over a larger area on the carpet, to treat it, you will need the following

  • A matching scrap of carpet
  • A vacuum
  • A scissor
  • Utility knife
  • Carpet tape
  • A comb

Now you are ready to start the process

  1. Vacuum the debris away from your carpet, similar to what you did for the smaller area.
  2. See that the scrap of carpet you have selected matches the appearance and texture of your carpet so that it doesn’t stand out.
  3. Then trace the pattern on the fabric piece using the original as a reference and cut it out.
  4. Vacuum the hole in your carpet to remove dirt or fabric, then fit the scrape into the hole to see if it aligns properly. If not, make adjustments using a scissor.
  5. Apply the carpet tape to the padding, and fit the scrap into place.
  6. Leave the area to let the carpet scrape set for a few hours. After that, comb the entire carpet to blend it with the existing carpet.
